Who I AM

My counselling practice

My name is Everett, but most people who know me call me E.J.  I recently made the decision to set up a practice in my own town rather than commuting to Edmonton every day.  This allows me to deepen my connection with my own community by serving those who live and work here.  I have been privileged to work with the good folks at Glenora Registered Psychologists for 15 years, training and practicing in a number of areas including play therapy, marriage and family therapy, child custody assessment, court-ordered interventions, and return-to-work counselling.  More recently I have had the pleasure of working with first responders and others injured at work - a return to the field of vocational rehabilitation in which I had started many years ago supervising a sheltered workshop.  Currently I am working part-time as a community rehabilitation psychologist and part-time in private practice.  My training and experience allows me to be of help to a wide variety of people  dealing with a wide variety of problems.  The word "paraclete" reflects my grounding in in Christian faith and spirituality that allows me to connect more meaningfully with the whole person and promote healing in this crucial but often neglected area of functioning.

My Treatment Focus

Sigmund Freud conceptualized mental health as the ability to love and work.  My treatment focus is on working with my client to remove barriers that hinder functioning in these areas.  This is done using evidence-based approaches such as EMDR Therapy, Prolonged Exposure Therapy, and Cognitive - Behavioral  Therapy approaches.
